Riyadh Air to welcome technical spare 787-9 Dreamliner

Saudi Arabian start-up carrier Riyadh Air is preparing to welcome its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which will serve as a technical spare and to support critical training operations as the carrier builds momentum toward its launch.

The leased aircraft is set to be unveiled at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, marking an important milestone in the airline’s journey.

While this plane does not feature Riyadh Air’s highly anticipated cabin interiors – set to debut soon – it boasts a high-specification design that reflects the airline’s commitment to delivering a world-class flying experience.

Separate from Riyadh Air’s order of 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, this leased plane will play a pivotal role in completing the airline’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process with the General Authority of Civil Aviation. It will later be utilised as a technical spare to support operations once services begin in 2025.

Riyadh Air says the decision to lease this aircraft underscores its innovative and proactive approach to building a state-of-the-art airline and demonstrates the carrier’s dedication to serving Riyadh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, positioning itself as a key player in the region’s aviation industry.
