Liege Airport achieved a remarkable milestone during the 2024 seasonal peak, setting a new record in November with 2,586 cargo aircraft movements – a 12.6% increase compared to the 2,297 movements in November 2023.
The airport has also reported handling 112,106 tonnes of cargo, marking a 16% year-on-year growth from 96,497 tonnes.
Torsten Wefers, vice president of sales and marketing at Liege Airport, said: “These are the highest levels reached in 2024. Liege Airport’s cargo community has demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the year supporting the unique growth path of LGG and the outlook for 2025 is very encouraging.”
Throughout the year, Liege Airport’s cargo operations have seen substantial expansion. The number of freighter carriers using the airport regularly grew by 20% to a total of 49. Additionally, nearly 60 logistics companies now operate in the airport’s vicinity, leveraging its dedicated cargo-only approach.
Liege Airport’s strong performance was evident in October when it posted the second-highest growth in cargo tonnages among European airports, trailing only Madrid.
The airport attributes much of its growth to surging demand from the Asian market, with imports driving air freight volumes. This trend highlights the ongoing challenges in the European economy, where inbound trade is currently outpacing exports.
