Avianca Cargo announces 20% capacity increase to support flower exports

Colombian cargo carrier Avianca Cargo has announced plans to close 2024 with a 20% increase in cargo capacity to Miami, anticipating peak seasons and the needs of the Ecuadorian flower market.

The announcement was made during the Expoflor Ecuador 2024 fair, where Avianca Cargo reinforced its role as a key logistics partner for Ecuadorian flower exporters.

The decision to expand capacity comes at a time when Ecuador’s cargo transport has seen a 20% growth over the past four years, with 90% of exported cargo being flowers destined for the US and European markets. Avianca Cargo’s enhanced capacity will be especially critical during peak demand seasons, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of these perishable products.

Diogo Elías, Avianca Cargo’s senior vice president, highlighted the airline’s focus on supporting Ecuador’s floriculture industry: “Ecuador is a key market for us, and the increase in cargo capacity reflects our dedication to meeting the needs of the sector. We are committed to ensuring that flower producers and exporters have the logistics solutions they need to succeed, particularly during high-demand periods.”

With over 50 years of experience in air cargo transport and a network that spans more than 70 destinations globally, Avianca Cargo is positioned to continue its leadership in flower transportation. The airline currently operates over 220 weekly cargo flights and more than 1,400 flights with belly capacity, ensuring broad and reliable connections for its customers.

Avianca Cargo’s participation in Expoflor Ecuador 2024 further underscored its commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient services that allow Ecuadorian exporters to thrive in international markets. The airline’s focus on expanding its fleet, improving infrastructure, and streamlining processes continues to cement its status as one of the top cargo carriers in Latin America and a crucial player in global logistics for perishable goods.
