Independent aircraft component parts, repair and supply chain solutions provider, AJW Group, has announced the integration of solar energy at its advanced battery MRO facility, AJW Technique Europe.
Located near London Gatwick Airport, AJW Technique Europe specialises in battery repair and overhaul services, including deep cycle, top charge, cleaning, and re-blocking for commercial aircraft power supplies.
With the installation of over 2,500 solar panels, the 175,000 sq ft AJW headquarters is expected to generate nearly 800,000 kWh of clean energy annually, supplying up to 55% of its UK operations with renewable energy. This shift is set to benefit the battery MRO facility by aligning its services with customers’ sustainability objectives.
AJW Group says the transition marks a significant step in its sustainability journey, with aircraft batteries at the facility now predominantly recharged using solar energy. This milestone underscores the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility, a commitment further reinforced by its 2023 signing of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
Clyde Buntrock FCILT, chief executive of AJW Aviation and AJW Technique, said: “Expanding our solar capacity and integrating solar energy into our battery MRO facility reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, customer success, and the principles of the UNGC. We are proud to offer reliable, environmentally responsible aircraft battery services that help our customers achieve their environmental goals.”
This initiative is part of AJW Group’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and promote the use of green energy across all areas of its business, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable aviation practices.
