Milestone reached in the development of the Silk Way Cargo Village

Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company (SW AFEZCO) has signed a landmark design and build agreement with Modern Construction Group, marking a key milestone in the development of the Silk Way Cargo Village.

This state-of-the-art project will be located within the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ), an initiative that emphasises Azerbaijan’s commitment to becoming a global hub for logistics and cargo services.

Modern Construction Group will design and construct three key facilities forming part of the Silk Way Cargo Village: a cargo terminal, the Silk Way office building, and a shared freight forwarder facility.

The agreement ensures that these modern facilities will align with the latest international standards for green and sustainable infrastructure.

The project reflects SW AFEZCO’s commitment to advancing innovative and efficient solutions for the aviation and logistics sectors, fostering sustainable development and enhancing regional connectivity.

Jawad Dbila, managing director of SW AFEZCO, said: “This agreement marks a transformative step toward establishing Azerbaijan as a premier global logistics hub. The fully automated 30,000 sqm cargo terminal, the largest in the Caspian Sea region, will set new standards in sustainable construction and enhance trade connectivity between Europe and Asia, solidifying Azerbaijan’s strategic role in the global logistics network.”

Arif Guliyev, director of Modern Construction Group, said: “We are honoured to collaborate with Silk Way AFEZCO on this transformative project. Our expertise in delivering complex infrastructure projects will ensure that the Silk Way Cargo Village becomes a sustainable beacon of Azerbaijan’s logistics ecosystem.”

The project is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
