Atlas Air supports Kuehne+Nagel’s expanded operations at Liege Airport

Liege Airport is strengthening its role as a key global cargo hub as Kuehne+Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics providers, expands its operations there.

The move is backed by Atlas Air Worldwide, a major player in air freight and operator of the world’s largest Boeing 747 freighter fleet.

The expansion includes the use of Boeing 747-8F aircraft – ideal for long-haul, heavy cargo. One standout is a fuel-efficient plane named ‘Inspire’ (N862GT), which carries over 140 metric tonnes and has a range of more than 8,000 kilometres.

Kuehne+Nagel already has a strong presence at Liege Airport, with access to first-line airside warehouses and a suite of air freight services including express, charter, and temperature-controlled options. Its operations are powered by digital tools that offer end-to-end shipment visibility.

With a network spanning more than 1,300 locations in nearly 100 countries, the company handles a wide range of cargo – from pharmaceuticals and perishables to aerospace and industrial equipment. Known for its reliable service and sustainability focus, Kuehne+Nagel continues to invest in efficient and responsible logistics solutions.

This move highlights Liege Airport’s growing importance in global air cargo and the trust it enjoys from major logistics partners.

Laurent Jossart, chief executive of Liege Airport, said: “We are delighted that Kuehne+Nagel has chosen to strengthen their operations at Liege Airport with the support of Atlas Air Worldwide. This expansion is a testament to the trust our partners place in our location, infrastructure, and ability to support complex and time-sensitive logistics.”

Jens Ludwig, vice president of global air logistics own-controlled network and charter at Kuehne+Nagel, said: “Liege Airport is a strategic hub for our European air logistics operations. This expansion with Atlas allows us to provide a premium around-the-clock service for our customers, leveraging LGG’s excellent facilities and capabilities.”

Michael Steen, chief executive at Atlas Air Worldwide, said: “We are pleased to support Kuehne+Nagel’s growing presence at Liege Airport. Their decision to expand reinforces Liege’s role as a key hub in the European logistics ecosystem. We look forward to continuing to contribute to this effort with reliable and high-quality airfreight operations.”
