Atlas Air CEO appointed to IATA board of governors

Atlas Air Worldwide has announced that its president and chief executive, Michael Steen, has been appointed to the board of governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

As a member of the IATA board of governors, Steen will help shape industry standards, influence aviation policy, and advance initiatives supporting global connectivity and a safe, secure, and sustainable aviation sector.

With over 30 years of experience in aviation and logistics, Steen’s appointment underscores his leadership at Atlas Air Worldwide where he has driven the company’s focus on safety, strategic expansion and operational excellence.

Steen said: “I am honoured to join the IATA board of governors at a pivotal time for the aviation industry. The role of aviation and air cargo in particular has never been more critical to the global economy.

“I look forward to collaborating with industry leaders to support our shared goals, including aviation safety, resilience, sustainability, and operational efficiency that benefit our customers and communities worldwide.”

Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general, said: “We are pleased to welcome Michael Steen to the IATA board of governors. His expertise in air cargo and commitment to the aviation industry will be invaluable as we address critical challenges like decarbonisation, air traffic modernisation, and supply chain resilience. Michael’s leadership will be instrumental in our efforts to making aviation safer, more efficient, and better connected globally.”

Steen also serves on the board of directors at CHC Helicopters and has served as chairman of IATA’s cargo advisory council.
