Brisbane-based Alliance Airlines is to work with pilot and flight crew training business Salient to implement a bespoke Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA).
Paul Doherty, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Alliance Airlines, believes that having a regular LOSA is an intrinsic part of delivering a resilient operation: “It’s the way of knowing that you are getting the best outcomes from the choices we’re making with the procedures we’re using,” he said. “It’s also a way of making sure we’re not getting blind-sided and therefore failing to see things that we should perhaps be concerned about.”

Wet-lease operator Alliance Airlines currently has 72 Fokker and Embraer aircraft, with bases in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Perth, operating up to 250 flights a day for the resource sector and services on behalf of Qantas and Virgin Australia.
“To build trust, the crew must feel they are being observed by someone who knows what it is like to be in their seat and can empathise with their position and the decisions they take,” said Sailent’s CEO, Mike Varney.
“The audit needs to be collaborative from the outset, to take the crew and the management on a journey, so there are no surprises when it comes to the final report, the processes that may need to change, and the training that may have to be given.”
