IRT Jules Verne named winner of the 2025 Aircraft Material Recycling Award

IRT Jules Verne has been named the winner of the 2025 Aircraft Material Recycling (AMR) Award.

The announcement was made by Aethos, in partnership with the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA).

The annual award recognises the most significant advancement in aircraft material recycling, promoting innovative solutions for a more sustainable aviation industry.

Aethos said this year the award attracted a strong field of applications from around the world. The winning entry impressed the jury with its PCR4AEOL project.

This solution uses a configurable cable robot and advanced non-destructive testing to dismantle composite aircraft structures, maximising the recovery and reuse of valuable materials while reducing energy consumption and manual labour.

Derk-Jan Van Heerden, Board Member and Founder of Aethos, commented: “We are thrilled to see such groundbreaking innovation in aircraft material recycling.

“IRT Jules Verne’s approach demonstrates how technology and creativity can unlock new value from end-of-life aircraft, setting a new standard for sustainability in our industry.”

Brent Webb, AFRA president, added: “The AMR Award is about celebrating real progress in recycling and sustainability.

“IRT Jules Verne’s solution not only advances the science of composite recycling but also offers practical benefits for the entire aviation sector.”

Julio Cesar De Luca, IRT Jules Verne EU R&DI technical lead, said: “We are honoured to receive the AMR Award.

“This recognition will help us further develop PCR4AEOL and move closer to a future where aircraft materials are reused and recycled with maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact.”
